According to the RURA chief manager Major Patrick Nyirishema, the changes were taken according to the calendar as it changes every two years depending on the circumstances.

The changes require the passenger to, formerly, paid 200Rwf using public transportation facilities such as buses, will be paying 220 Rwf since November, 01, 2015.

The transportation fees will be maintained for two coming years depending on fluctuations of oil prices at the international market.

Major Nyirishema told Radio Rwanda that if the price of the oil drops, the transportation fees will decline to one Rwandan franc.

Passengers expressed their discomfort with this new transportation fee as the living conditions are hard to cope with in the current situation, they claim.

Recently, in a ceremony aimed at awarding the best performers in the transport industry, the bus drivers decried to RURA officials that the current transportation fees do not allow them to earn and pay the taxes, thus the need of its assessment and redefinition.
