Some of their close friends said the arrested journalists were arrested this morning after airing insulting voices downloaded from the internet last night.

The voices contained insulting speeches against senior officials in the government, including the Head of State.

Jeannette Mukamana is an experienced journalist while Nishimye Rose is a level 2 student in journalism who was undergoing an internship at the Radio Salus.

The show in which these voices were released is called “Animation Libre” and passes at the Radio Salus located in Huye District, South Province.

The CEO of the Radio-Salus, Eugene Hagabimana affirms that the Radio presenters were arrested but denied to provide more details as he was attending a meeting at time the journalists were arrested.

The radio presenters explained to the Police that the airing of such voices happened unwillingly but the explanations did not convince the Police.

Some of the listeners of the Radio Salus said that these aired voices were insulting high officials including the Head of State and were uttered by  Rwandans living in diaspora.

UM– USEKE tried to reach the Spokesperson of the Rwanda National Police in the South Province  for further details about the case but he did not pick up the phone.
