As he is making an official visit to Rwanda to strongly tie relations between Tanzania and Rwanda, Tanzanian foreign Minister Augustine Mahiga lauded the economic efforts that Rwanda made. After visiting the Gisozi genocide memorial site, he expressed his sad felling about the cruel deeds of the ones who massacred the innocent Tutsis in 1994 and denounced it.
Min Mahiga makes the diplomatic step after Rwanda and Tanzania have had diplomatic coldness in 2013 when the then ruling President Jakaya Kikwete urged Rwanda to hold talk with the FDLR’s, a demand that angered Rwandans.
Since then the diplomatic relations between both nations deteriorated but since President John Pombe Magufuli came to power, both nations create a friendly environment allowing a re-establishment of mutual and beneficial diplomatic relations.
Rwanda at its side tried to nurture richer diplomatic environment as both President Kagame and Foreign affairs Minister Louise Mushikiwabo went in Tanzania in different but highly significant times.
President Kagame attended the swearing-in ceremony of the current Tanzanian President John Pombe Magufuli and Minister Louise Mushiwabo recently was in Tanzania to discuss diplomatic issues with Magufuli at the State House.
According to the agenda, Min Mahiga will be holding talks with Rwandan officials on issues related to diplomatic issues pertaining to both nations.
He( Augustine Mahiga) is graduate from the University of Toronto,Canada, in Diplomacy and has served as Ambassador of Tanzania in the UN Headquarters since 2003 up to 2010 .
He also served as a special UN envoy in Somalia since 2010 up to 2013.
