On 30th October 2015 during the interactive business roundtable conference with Rt. Hon. Rwanda PM Murekezi Anastase on the topic- “Indo-Rwanda Technology Transfer & Commercialization”, MGU (Mahatma Gandhi University) presented and addressed the gathering on education and governance in the Republic of Rwanda.

Director Distance Education at MGU India, Ms. Milli Goel had a positive and fruitful discussion with high level delegation from Rwanda including Hon. Minister of MINEAC Amb. Valentine Rugwabiza.

The mission of MGU was shared that this university wants to make Rwanda an ICT enabled country and doing its every possible efforts to achieve the target.

During the Indo-Africa Summit 2015 held at the New Delhi, capital of India, that took place from 26-29 October, 2015, India Hon.Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s addressed to the nation, emphasized the long and strong ties between India and Africa and went on to say that there are more than 25,000 African students presently studying in India, an indication considered to be very beneficial for African Continent.

Still, in that concept of cooperation, Rwanda started benefiting more. It is indeed superb that Mahatma Gandhi University Rwanda has undertaken a USD TEN MILLION project in Kabuga, Rwanda.

What is noteworthy is the fact that the entire dynamic and pro-active team has effectively marketed the various courses and programmes not just in Rwanda, but also in the neighboring EAC countries.

With more than 25,000 students from Africa presently studying in India and with MGU Rwanda campus, we can expect a sizeable allocation of seats to other African students coming into Rwanda, thus earning valuable foreign exchange for the country.

The University curriculum is mapped, designed and updated in a way so that it addresses the national gaps identified in the country in the field of ICT, Trade, Infrastructure, Agriculture, etc.
The University officials also shared that they are preparing and going to launch an international sport academy within their campus (in Kabuga) where the focus will be to create and train the local Rwandans in various sports including football, badminton, volleyball and basketball to play and compete at international levels. MGU always believe to work within the system and for the system.

The University has also invested a lot and committed to invest further in partnering with high quality service provider in education sector in order to offer best services to the students in Rwanda.

Recently, they had a strategic tie-up with a renowned multi-domain service provider called “Excel Books” as their e-Learning and Academic partner.

The institution has invested million dollars in buying the world class academic content for various programs including e-books, eminent video lecturers, industry speakers, and computer based & live tutorials, Learning Management system and so on.

Considering the marginalization in the libraries and failing to meet the needs of the students and researchers due to the declining budget and currency weakness, MGU has also invested substantially and added thousands of new research papers and number of international scholarly articles.

Dr. Rajan Chopra, Chancellor at MGU (an eminent professional and educationist who has gained a prominent position in society due to the exemplary work he has done in the education sector), would definitely strive to enhance Indo – Rwandan ties and collaborations.

MGU is committed to walk in the footsteps of the Father of the Indian Nation from whom the University gets its very name.

And MGU will surely contribute towards making this beautiful Land of a Thousand Hills a place where many millions will smile seeing this great nation becoming an EDUCATION HUB in the EAC region.
