The Eastern Province of Rwanda is known for its hot and windy air especially during the sunny season. This causes growing crops to dry and, therefore, droughts and hunger arise.
For locals to hinder this from spreading and becoming a disaster locals use irrigation techniques to avoid endemic droughts and this technique proved successful.
Locals living and cultivating nearby Mugesera Lake are the ones who practice this technique more than the rest.
