This Thursday, as the Rwandans started commemorating the genocide against the Tutsis, Rusizi residents who lost their relatives during the genocide said that the fact that relatives are not buried in a usual sites as they have been ‘thrown’ in Rubyiro river grieves them.
The IBUKA representative in Bugarama cell told participants that the Rubyiro river was the area where killers threw the Tutsis they killed.
She therefore expressed the feeling that there should be genocide memorial site to help survivors remember their beloved ones in a more respectful way.
At locals were expressing their witness on how they experienced the genocide, most of the witnesses said that John Yussuf Munyakazi was the most notorious killers in the area.
He(Munyakazi) trained Interahamwe killers in different areas such as Bisesero and elsewhere.
The Mayor of Rusizi, Frederic Harerimana promised survivors that the district management will learn on how it can provide needed support as to build as genocide memorial site.
Tutsis killers and thrown in the river were taken from different areas such as Bugarama, Gikundamvura and Butare.
In the recent times, it has been observed that some of the Bugarama sector dwellers still nurture genocide ideology.
