Drocelle Mukashyaka in charge of the tax and revenues collection in the RRA said the three men have played a role in the evasion of the taxes and revenues in collaboration with one of the RRA officers.

She said that one man called Bimenyimana was caught in action as he was selling the rice normally intended to be sent to DRC. The rice weighted 270 tons and was worthy 62 million Rwandan francs.

The most concerning issue is that this entire package was illegally sold in Kigali without any tax payment, added the fact that the rice was intended to be sold in DRC.

The accused Bimenyimana Celestin denied responding to media, saying that further explanations will be delivered in the court.

For the smugglers to cover the case, they searched for fake legal papers testifying that the rice package crossed the border and arrived in DRC.

The Police spokesperson CSP Celestin Twahirwa said that if the suspects will be brought to prosecution as to respond to their involvement into the tax evasion and smuggling.
