Yesterday the Kigali city officials held a sensitization workshop with different opinion leaders in Kigali city including journalists to showcase to them how important it is to know and implement the current urbanization plan.
As the Kigali city keeps growing both in people and in size, officials urge its inhabitants to set their businesses up in harmony with required urban norms.
Kigali city is currently 730Km square wide and it keeps growing, thus requiring adequate urbanization plan and implementation.
The deputy chief of the economic department and development Parfait Busibiza told media that the current population of the Kigali city will be between 3 800 000 and 4 200 000 million people in 2040.
This demographic growth goes with a daily increase of 300 000 new households a day at a relatively small size.
As the main duty of the government is to ensure the well-being of its citizens, especially the ones living in cities, it urges city inhabitants to respect the urbanization plan to avoid further anarchy and related chaos.
According to the current plan, 83% of the whole city is rural settled while the 17% is urban settled.
Among this whole population, its 70% is settled in shantytown areas. The common challenge that the Kigali city management is facing relates to the lack of mindset change of its inhabitants, thus the delay of urbanization plan implementation.
