Kigali city authorities have launched a four years long program that will consists on paving many routes in different neighborhoods. The project will cost over 25 Billion Rwf. This program was officially launched yesterday at Kisimenti, Remera.
Phase number one will be carried out by the NPD- COTRACO construction company that will pave over 70 kilometers while the rest of the program( 35 Km) will be paved afterwards.
Before the program started, officials discussed with people as to know which place they consider as worthy to have paved streets, the Mayor of Kigali city Fidele Ndayisaba said during his inauguration speech.
Minister of local governance, Musoni James urged the NPD-COTRACO to build strong and lasting streets so to let users have effective tools for commercial exchanges.
Minister Musoni called upon all concerned institutions to work closely as to ensure the job is done as planned.
The length of the project to build these streets will last four years but it can be shortened depending on the circumstances.
Here is the list of neighborhoods that will be paved across Kigali:
-In Gasabo District: Gisimenti-Remera, Kibagabaga, Kimironko, Kimihurura and Gisozi neighborhoods.
-In Kicukiro :Kimisange, Kagarama, Niboye
-In Nyarugenge: In this district, different streets will be built to link different corners of small neighborhoods of the Nyimirambo sector.
In previous years, many streets have rehabilitated but did not last due to poor quality.
The Kigali city authorities warned the company that is entrusted to build these streets to ensure a high quality of these streets as to reduce the costs of rehabilitation.
