Umuseke reporter from the East Province talked to people living in the periphery areas of the Akagera River and told him that they consume dirt water from the Akagera River due to the alarming lack of clean water in the neighborhood and the high price tag of the available water facilities.

Most of our informants live in Kageyo cell, Mwiri Sector in Kayonza district, East Province.
The only water reserve they fetch comes from the Akagera river swamp.

The lack of clean and frequently found water supplies, locals do fetch the unclean water from the Akagera river swamp.

Even though there are some clean water facilities in different areas, its high price hinders some of the locals to fetch the vital water ingredient.

Once can is worthy 30 Rwandan francs, a price some of locals claim is high depending on their daily means of living.

Local political leaders agree that people face such challenges that threaten their lives.

They, however, affirm that are ongoing consultations with an investor who want to install water facilities in the area and the poorest will be fetching water freely.

To economically manage water they fetched, locals can use a can throughout a week.

Local officials told Umuseke that the investor will install such water sanitation facilities within two weeks ahead, thus, urging locals to meanwhile be patient .
