In the commemoration event that took place yesterday at Kabgayi parish where over 400 bodies of innocent Tutsi killed in 1994 genocide were buried, the Minister of sports and culture Mitali Protais condemned the fact that some of the Catholic Church officials including fathers involved themselves into the killings during the Genocide against the Tutsi.

Minister Mitali focused on the sad reality that characterized the Kabgayi Parish whereby Catholic Church fathers did not rescue the Tutsi fugitives who were at the Parish but rather delivered them to merciless killers who exterminated them.

Mitali urged for a special research about the history of genocide in Kabgayi as a special area where religious leaders participated into the killings.

For him, the Parish should elaborate a special memorial site and a museum to keep the history of the area  intact.

The President of the IBUKA, Dr Dusingizemungu Jean Pierre appreciated the social interactions that characterize the relations between genocide survivors and the families of the perpetrators.

Some of the Fathers or religious officials with whom I discussed with, have recognized their role in the genocide and asked for forgiveness. Truth telling will help us live together and with respect, he said.

Yesterday, more than 400 bodies of innocent Tutsis were buried in the Genocide memorial site of Kabgayi.
