Opposition Forum Democratic Change (FDC) has advised former prime minister Amama Mbabazi to state his position or he will be “swallowed” by President Museveni’s machinery.

Mbabazi is no longer in good relationship with President M7 warns the FDC
Museveni has sacked former Prime Mbabazi

“If he tries to hide, I can authoritatively say he will be written off in the next two months because they will intimidate, frame and lock him out. He is safer coming out and declaring his ambitions now,” Ms Alice Alaso, the FDC secretary general, said during a media briefing at the party’s headquarters in Najjanankumbi, Kampala yesterday.

Mbabazi sacked
The President sacked Mr Mbabazi and replaced with former Health Minister Ruhakana Rugunda last weekend. The former premier, who has in the past denied harbouring any intentions of standing against President Museveni, said he will continue to offer his services to the country in whatever capacity he can shortly after his sacking.

Ms Alaso said FDC was conscious of the President’s powers to appoint and disappoint but “we take exception in this case because Amama is paying a price for choosing to stand against him”.

She cited Soroti Municipality MP Mike Mukula, renegade Gen David Sejusa, Dokolo County MP Felix Okot Ogong as some of the examples Mr Museveni and his group have “swallowed” and who Mr Mbabazi should look at.
