It was on Saturday during the evening hours that a relatively strong earthquake happened in different corners of Africa including Rwanda where houses and infrastructures got damaged.

The earthquake destroyed houses in East part of Rwanda including in Kirehe district where a water  pipeline that distributed water to Nasho and Mpanga sectors has been destroyed.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) calculated that the earthquake was 5.7  powerful and its epicenter was located at at least 187 kilometers deep beneath the earth is as far as Rwandan case is concerned.

It last not more than 40 seconds and has destroyed houses in different corners of East Africa namely in Tanzania where 11 people lost lives and more houses and infrastructures spoiled.

Its impact reached Kigali city where houses located in Kimisagara and Gikondo sectors undergone mild destruction.

Ngoma district in Eastern Province was also affected by the earthquake in its sectors such as Jarama and Kiramuruzi in Gatsibo district.

The USGS reports that the earthquake was heard in East African nations such as Uganda, DRCongo, Burundi and Tanzania.

In addition to eleven people who lost their lives in Tanzania, official sources indicate that 192 others suffer serious injuries from the walls of the buildings that befell them.

The most powerful earthquake Rwandans experienced in recent times is the one that happened in 2008.

This deadly earthquake killed over 30 people and the most affected areas included Nyamasheke and  Rusizi districts.
