Witness bared by locals from Ruyenzi sector in Kamonyi district, South province affirm that life has changed remarkably within eight past years due to the urbanization activities.
One of the most touching change relates to the increase of land price. The estimated increase is in between 60 and 120 times.
According to some of our informants, Ruyenzi is populated by people who want to live in the suburbs of Kigali city where living costs are relatives lower.
Even though some of the locals claim that the urbanization has created hardships, others, including Twagirimana Francois, laud the social and economic progress it brought in.
This entrepreneur invests in land purchasing and selling and it increased his wealth as an indigenous of the region.
He urged that he earns at least five hundred thousand Rwandan Francs per month and when the sales are favorable, he even earns a million per month.
Twagirimana affirmed that the increase of the land price lies in the fact the rich people from Kigali city started investing the Ruyenzi suburb and this was a business opportunity for him.
He focuses on the most preferred areas of Ruyenzi which include Muganza, Rugalika and Kigese.
In these areas, the minimum price of a land is six hundred thousand Rwandan Francs (600 000Rwf) and the maximum can reach one million and beyond.
Most significantly, Ruyenzi down town area called Rugazi is highly expensive.
One can buy a land to twelve million Rwandan francs, not less.
The main reason that makes the area more expensive than the rest is that it has modern roads and clean houses.
As Kigali city keeps expanding, surrounding areas change accordingly.
This helps people who are entrepreneurial minded to search tangible business opportunities to enhance their livelihoods.
