The news of the sacking of Kalisa, who joined the club at the start of this season, was confirmed by the club’s spokesperson Nepo Mbonyumuvunyi.

“It’s true he (Kalisa) has been relieved of his duties as Police FC’s assistant coach along with two players, we wish them all the best wherever they wish to go,” the official told this paper by phone on Friday.

Kalisa, who was signed from newly promoted Turbo King National Football League side Gicumbi FC, expressed shock at news of his sacking. He said, “I thought I was doing my job quite well and I am shocked that the club has decided to get rid of me.”

Now it means the club must look for another assistant to work with the head coach Sam Ssimbwa, who replaced Serbian Goran Kuponovic this season.

Police are in seventh position in the league table with 14 points, seven behind leaders AS Kigali after nine rounds of matches.

The former Ugandan international, Ssimbwa recently challenged his players to up their game in the coming fixtures, starting with the next one against bottom side Amagaju FC on December 22 when the league returns.
