We are self sustained even if our families left us alone-E, Kwihangana

Emmanuel Kwihangana who lives with his sister in a small house that they lend has told UM– USEKE that life for them is hard after their mother died and their families left them alone while they were not yet 20 years old  to be self sustainable.

Emmanuel Kwihangana expressed to the INILAK students union members who visited them their commitment to live their lives independently after being left alone by their family members.

When we go to school we close the house because we have none to keep the house, Ingabire said.

The sister of Kwihangana, Ingabire Claudine is now 20 years old and she is a senior 4 secondary school student.

She recalls when mother was seriously ill at that their family members left them alone.

We did not receive any help from our relatives. My brother was the one who provided every needed help. Our neighbors were the only ones who helped our mother to endure and they provided necessary help during our mother’ burial, Ingabire affirms.

After the death of their mother, the young went to lend a house in Kimicanga neighborhood as their relatives were not willing to help them in these difficult living conditions.

We decided to live together as brother and sister as our family members  hesitated to help us in these conditions, Kwihangana said.

The Genocide Surviveors Fund FARG provides the financial assistance to those young people. The INILAKSU-Inilak Students Union representative Delyse Niwemutoni said that the association decided to visit them as to back them and assist them as to overcome the challenging situation they encounter.

We felt concerned with the life of those young and decided to visit them and  give them a  message of hope , said Niwemutoni.

The leader of those students promised a help from the students union whenever necessary.
