Rwanda and DRC hold bilateral talks on trade cooperation

This Thursday, DRC and Rwandan trade actors gather in Kigali to exchange views on how effective trade between both nations can be improved. The meeting is under the patronage of the COMESA and aims at assessing barriers that hinder nationals from both countries to easily trade between them and effectively.

The Head of trade department in the  Rwandan Ministry of trade, Robert Opirah, told participants that the meeting is of a great importance as its outcomes will be focusing on how the trade between both nations can bear lasting benefits.

Among different issues facing trade between nations, include a given amount of money cut to some Rwandan tradesmen crossing the DRC’s boarder to sell their products.

It has also been observed that certain Rwandan tradesmen chose to sell their products in hiding to avoid the above mentioned cuts and this situation endangers their lives and wealth.

One of the strategies to strengthen this type of trade is to sensitize traders to keep joining the cooperatives so that their activities might be secured, officials advised.

The Rwandan Ministry of trade has also a plan to build markets in defined places nearby boarders to ease goods’ transportation and exchange between both nations.

Jean Jacques Chiribagula Ntwali who headed the DRC’ delegation said that this meeting will equip them with significant package on how both nations can improve bilateral trade.

Chiribagula told reporters that DRC held such talks with its neighboring countries  including Zambia, Rwand and Burundi will follow.

Most of the commercial items  discussed today related agriculture and animal husbandry.

It also concerns all items manufactured in small factories from both nations.
