Rwanda: 89% finds AU is important while 11% finds it unnecessary

The survey that Umuseke.rw conducted revealed that a big majority of Rwandans are aware of the importance of the AU Summit to have taken place in Rwanda while others, a remarkable minority, finds it unnecessary.

Most of Kigali dwellers find the ended AU Summit in Kigali useful

The 27th   AU Summit that took place in Kigali was attended by over 3000 honorable participants from across the continent. Most of them lauded how Rwandans hosted them and appreciated the cleanliness characterizing Kigali.

At their side, 89% of the 100 respondents that Umuseke.rw has asked about the importance of such a Summit to take place in Kigali responded that it is useful as it increases Rwanda’s reputation at the international scene.

For them the AU Summit to Rwanda was an opportunity for tourism sector operators to promote it and attract more potential clients and investors.

One of the respondents named Emmanuel Ndagijimana told our  reporters that the AU Summit participants will be narrating the valuable hospitality Rwandans have shown to them.

This will be a positive tool to increase the pride of Rwandans at the international scene and thereafter attract more visitors who will pay hospitality fees to the national treasury.

However, 11% of respondents find that the AU Summit is useless for the big majority who practices agriculture and live in remote rural areas.

A certain part of the 11% responded that the 27th AU Summit is not special in itself as the previous ones didn’t bear tangible outcomes to a significant part of Africans for ten past years.

Some of them said that the AU Summit in Kigali has disadvantaged some of Kigali dwellers as security  measures hampered them from normally conducting their daily businesses.

Celestin Uwimana who is a taxi driver is among them. He uttered that the changing of the traffic normal activities have impacted on people’s daily earnings.

Nzeyimana responded that the Summit has only benefited to hotel owners and the politicians only as the rest of the Rwandans didn’t gain much.

Few days ago, Rwandan Minister of foreign affairs Louise Mushikiwabo told media that the Rwanda will gain as much as possible through acquiring foreign currencies and through increasing its already-appreciated image at the international scene.

She also added that the importance of the AU Summit will be benefit to the rest of Rwandans as the gains that Rwanda will acquire will be invested in lasting and more productive projects.
