People with disabilities to participate into the Kigali Peace Marathon

The communiqué delivered by the management of the Kigali Peace Marathon informs that this year’s competition will involve people with disabilities as it is the first time for them to participate in such yearly marathon.

People with disabilities will race in seven kilometers while normally the participants in the race have to run 42 kilometers as a full marathon.

The runners for fun who usually race five kilometers will currently run seven kilometers.

People with disabilities will use the wheelchairs to run these seven kilometers as the executive secretary of the Rwanda Athletics Federation, Munyandamutsa Jean Paul revealed.

He added this new incentive aims at helping people who became handicapped during the liberation war to participate in this Kigali Peace Marathon.

MTN Rwanda will sponsor the marathon as it will invest 67, 758, 000 Rwandan francs.

This sponsorship will help in paying the runners as the first one will be paid  two million Rwandan francs while last year the first one earned 150 000 Rwf.

This year’s Kigali Peace Marathon will start on May, 22, 2016.
