Korea Telecom (KT) organized a special party for Rwandan students in S.Korea

An end of the year and the beginning of a New Year is noble time for families, employees from different companies to come together and share joyful moments  for their achievements over the past  and  plan for the New Year.

It is in this regard that KT, as a key player in broadband connectivity ventures in Rwanda, prepared a special end-of-the-year party for Rwandan students currently in South Korea as to wish them a happy new 2014 year.

It was also an opportunity for Rwandan students to have a chat with the KT’s Global Enterprise Group President.

While addressing these students, Mr. Hongjin Kim reminded some of similarities between South Korea and Rwanda. One of the similarities he highlighted was a post-conflict quick recovery and the resilience of citizens of these two friendly countries.

He also pointed out that like Korea has done, Rwanda has and is investing heavily in her citizens, a major and reliable resource.

“People have value than natural resources and Rwanda has to focus on developing itself from its own people”; Mr Kim told the students.

He also  lauded the post-genocide result-oriented leadership spearheaded by President Kagame that he sees in Rwanda.

Hongjin Kim also told Rwandan students that KT will be giving interested students a chance to do internship courses  at the company as a way of enhancing their knowledge acquired from their respective universities.

He ended by reminding the students that they should be more focused on their studies so that they should play a big role in their country once back home as Korean scholars have done.

The representative of the Rwandan students, James Ntaganda, first thanked KT for the special party and thanked Mr Hongjin Kim for his speech  full of wisdom and experience.

He also reminded that they come for studies based on merit and competition and that they have to work with other Rwandans to make Rwanda a competitive country in modern global economy race.

“Coming to Korea is a great opportunity for students who come from developing countries because of Korea’s development trends and we know well what our country expects from us. We shall not disappoint all people and Institutions that trusted us” he said.

Apart from chatting and dinning with Hongjin Kim, students had a tour around the KT’s technology lounge to experience the latest technologies and the party ended with Rock band that entertained the students for about two hours at KT’s OLLEH SQUARE grand entertainments hall.

ITU (International Telecommunication Union), a global standards body has been ranking South Korea number one in terms of broadband connectivity and usage.

The two giants in technologies, LG and Samsung electronics are South Korea based companies.
