Gen Rwarakabije testifies on his former life

During a annual celebration of Rwanda National Heroes day, Gen Rwarakabije who heads Rwandan correctional services operating in prisons told prisoners from Muhanga Prison that during his life in the DRC forests as a FDLR commander, he received letters that encouraged him to keep fighting against the government so to release them from prisons.

He told prisoners his experience as a former commander of FDLR rebels in North Kivu, DRC where he received many  letters urging him to keep fighting against Rwanda and overthrow the regime.

The first letter I got was sent by a prisoner who gave it to one of my former soldiers, he revealed.

He said that all  of the letters he received were sent by prisoners but with time his convictions to overthrow the Kigali regime disappeared and  he decided to return back home.

Gen Rwarakabije said that since the time he came back, he is still confident on the progress  that Rwanda has achieved and swore to take part in the efforts to develop the nation.

The  Chief of the Rwanda correctional services denied the allegations from different international experts accusing Rwandan forces to have killed refugees in DRC.

I was there as a military senior officer and  I didn’t see any Rwandan troop killing a refugee, he said.

He said that  Rwanda troops were eager to help  refugees to safely come back home  but they were hindered by the former FAR (Forces Armees Rwandaises) who closed the refugee camp, Gen Rwarakabije said.

During the cerebration, some of the newly repatriated refugees provided testimonies  on their participation in the genocide against the Tutsi.

Those refugees came back after the Gacaca courts closed the audiences.
