CNLG condemns the court release of Dr Gérard Ntakirutimana

 The CNLG (National Commission for the Fight against the Genocide) condemned the recent decision taken by Judge Theodor Meron to release Dr Gérard Ntakirutimana who was found guilty for having committed the genocide against the Tutsi in 1994.

In the communiqué,the CNLG strongly  condemns the fact the judge decided to released Dr Ntakirutimana who committed the genocide alongside his father in the former Mugonero health center in Kibuye.

The decision to acquit Dr Ntakirutimana comes in during a time that Rwandans and the international community is commemorating the genocide against the Tutsi.

CNLG finds  regrettable of the fact that since Judge Meron became the judge in chief of the second chamber of the Court, many genocide perpetrators have been released and others saw their sentences  reduced; examples being the ones of Colonel Bagosora, Col Anatole Nsengiyumva, whose sanctions has been reduced.

He acquitted the suspects namely Zigiranyirazo, Mugenzi, Mugiraneza, General Ndindiriyimana and Major Nzuwonemeye.

For these above mentioned examples, the CNLG is concerned with these brutal decisions taken by Judge Meron without considering the heaviness of the genocide perpetrated against the Tutsi.

The CNLG has commended different nations that arrest and charge genocide suspects as to bring justice to the survivors.

However the Spokesperson of the National Persecution Authority Alain Mukurarinda told one of the local radio stations that the decisions of the court are to be respected. He said that according the legal procedures, a prisoner whose conduct  is positive sometimes gets released.
