Burera Lake: A boat sunk, killing a five months old child and her mother

The deadly incident happened on Monday as boat that carried nine persons sunk in Burera lake, Burera district, killing a five months old child and his mother who carried him in her back. She was the one who drove the boat, however.

The boat packed nine persons and two of them died as highlighted above. The dead body of the child was found while his mother’s body is still missing.

Joselyne Uwiduhaye, the mother of the dead child, drove the boat alongside Naomi Uwimana, Emelyne Muragijimana, Marie Nyiramana, Regis Nkurunziza, Rachelle Icyimanizanye, Jacqueline Nakure, Elina and Nyirambari.

Apart from Uwiduhaye and her child who passed away, others escaped alive.

Eyewitnesses revealed that the incident was mainly caused by the overweight of the boat that carried many items and nine persons.

The mayor of Burera district Florence Uwimbajimana confirms the news, adding that the body of the dead child was taken off from the water and burial activities are being prepared .
