The UAP family organised a Memorial Day to pay tribute to those who lost their lives during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, at a function held on the 29th of June, 2017.

This was an opportunity to reflect, learn about the effects of the Genocide and create awareness on Rwanda’s reconciliation and nation building with a look into the future.

UAP acknowledges the courage and strong commitment of the people of Rwanda, in their reconciliation effort. As such, UAP Insurance Rwanda has extended its remembrance flame to the entire UAP family (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, DR Congo and South Sudan).

UAP wished to support its staff and the Rwandan Community through this functionwhich started at 10am at Nyarusange Sector Memorial Site.

The audience made of UAP family representative members from Kigali and Muhanga Branch, Agents and local leaders was taken through the history of Nyarusange Memorial Site and the people of Muhanga. Mr. Kayihura Oswald, President of Ibuka in Muhanga District told the team about 1,600 Rwandans buried at the Memorial and future plan of the Memorial to build memory of Rwandans who perished during the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi.

Kwibuka has always been an important concept to the UAP Family in Rwanda and the region; it’s a noble remembrance ceremony aiming at paying tribute to the beautiful lives lost during the Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda but again a precious time to reflect on our rolein ensuring that this never happens again in Rwanda, Africa or anywhere else in the World” Said James Mbithi, the Acting CEO and COO UAP Rwanda.

The team with Mrs. Louise Gahongahire’s guidance reflected on Origins and Consequences of 1994 Genocide against The Tutsi.

The origin was demonstrated with some extracts of the Rwanda History and consequences including survivors’ support as one the main priorities for the people of Rwanda.

UAP Rwanda family with the support of the local leaders, closed the Remembrance Day with a donation to four survivors family who received cows.

Our wish today was to bring our small contribution to the District efforts of transforming survivor’s lives as we remain committed to stand with the people of Rwanda for this noble fight against genocide and its ideology”. Added James before handing over the first cow on behalf of the UAP Team.

The beneficiaries were identified and selected by the local leaders of Muhanga District including the Executive Secretary of Nyarusange Sector.

The event was closed by Mrs. JosephineUmuhoza, who graced the event on behalf of the Mayor of Muhanga District.
