According to the RURA, the passengers in Kigali city who are getting familiar with the use of smart cards in the payment of transport fees are given another opportunity to pay using their phones as the smart cards will be technologically linked to the phones sim cards so to pay easily and quickly.
This new initiative will firstly help passengers who use the Royal express buses but other transport companies will embrace it progressively.
The card to use in this initiative is 500 Rwf worthy and the passenger will be uploading in another package of money to pay the transport fees.
If the passengers does no longer need the sim card to use in that service, will be free to give it back to the Royal Express management, according to Nilla Muneza from the company.
Muneza said that this new system is currently used in 30 buses operating in Bwerankoro-Kimironko-Nyabugogo and Gikondo.
According to the schedule, this new technology will be installed in the Royal Express buses operating in Kicukiro district on, April 10, 2016.
She revealed that this new initiative is bearing positive fruits as it avoids misunderstandings between bus drivers and the Royal Express management especially in funds management.
Technology is providing lasting and reliable solutions to this issues, she underlined.
This new initiative will also help in avoiding over-crowding of passengers in the buses as additional passengers will not be able to pay the transport fee due to the fact that the machine will not accept his/her money.
According to the Rwanda Utility and Regulation Authority, the current transport is better than before and is now helping people to get quick and better transport services.
The transport in Kigali city underwent different challenges related to the scarce number of mass transporting buses and regulatory measures.
However, RURA currently affirms that the situation is getting better due to the current measures to manage the situation through involving private investors in this sector.
Major Patrick Nyirishema who is the manager of the RURA affirmed that transport has been eased by the availability of many buses and the use of technology.
