According to Dr Habyalima J.Baptiste, the nature of the genocide against the Tutsi as a unique genocide where citizens of the same country have killed each other, relatives killing each other, it is very demanding and challenging to unite them.
He said this during a one day summit on reconciliation that brought together different private and public institutions of the civil society in Rwanda.
The eight years of reconciliation has been characterized by a judgment process whereby perpetrators were brought to justice in order to ensure fair justice for both sides.
In the meeting, efforts of keeping and sharpening the peace of mind of all Rwandans were discussed about and more policies to push them far and make them effective were set up for the second term.
More public lectures on the roots of division and ways to readjust the situation for peaceful and calm neighborhoods for Rwandans are set to be held in the second term of NURC(National Unity and Reconciliation Commission).
However according to Dr Habyalimana ,one of the most challenging situation is to the inner heart unwillingness to change for one’s behavior and mental status.
We have found that some Rwandans still identify themselves as Hutu or Tutsi and this hampers the reconciliation to materialize”
