National Young Entrepreneurs Debate Championships is one  of the annual competitions among teens to help them increase the debating and public speaking skills.It also equips them with necessary skills to start nurturing entrepreneurial skills and thirsty at early age.  This year’s competition was won by two schools namely  Lycee De Kigali and Mount Kenya University.

The championship started in Karongi district on August, 13, and was carried out throughout the country before taking off on 11, September, 2016.

Fourteen schools took part in this competition and among 95 schools, only 14 ones remained firm in the competition up to the final stage.

The championship featured schools from the district level, stepped to the provincial level before reaching the national level.

Lycee De Kigali and Mount Kenya University (both being from Kigali city) are the ones that performed better and reached the final debate of the National Young Entrepreneur’s Debating Championships 2016.

The last final debate featured the above mentioned schools and Agahozo Shalom and the University of Rwanda, College of Science and Technology who qualified as the  second winners.

Some of the subjects debated included  the ups and downs of having a cashless economy, issues related to youth unemployment , saving culture and entrepreneurship.

The manager of the Rwanda Inspiration Backup Ishimwe Dieudonne informed that these debates are helpful in increasing students’ awareness about national and international issues that are more likely to affect their lives.

Some of the students sharpened their entrepreneurial skills through these debates, he added.

The best  eloquent students identified included Maya Musenga from Wellspring Academy, Belinda Uwase Isimbi from King David Academy and Clemence Mbabazi from  Groupe Scolaire Mater Dei in Nyanza district.

Among the best six eloquent students, one was a boy while rest was girls.
