The Rwanda Devolopmnet Board(RDB) has organized Gala Dinner to fund raise money aimed at increasing the safety and well being of crested cranes and mountain gorillas.

The Gala Dinner took place on Saturday last week and was attended by various dignitaries such EU Amb Micheal Ryan, RDB’s managing director Francis Gatare, private sector members, among others.

The Nigerian superstar WizKid was also at the ceremony and has contributed to the fund raising activity as he bought expensive items to bring home.

The RDB’s project is called  ‘Mountain Gorilla Skeletal Project’ and is aimed at protecting ecosystems including crested cranes and mountain gorillas.

The project will also help in building and care-taking the eco-lodge house in Akagera National Park.

Participants bought other  issues such as air plane traveling tickets for the ones willing to have a rest prestigious hotels such Radsson Blue hotel in Nairobi and in Dubai and elsewhere.

The Nigerian singer WizKid bought two items worthy $2000 and was rewarded to have a stay in Nyungwe Loge and fly over the skies of Rwanda in a helicopter.

This is a means to use his popularity in promoting Rwandan tourism industry, as Belise Kaliza in charge of ecosystems management in RDB highlighted.

She added that amount collected from selling the items in the Gala Dinner is equal to 10  million Rwf and this amount will be added to the one collected from the selling of entrance tickets to the gala as one ticket was worthy  $120 per person and $1000 per ten person on a table.

The year’s 12 Kwita Izina event is scheduled to take place on 2nd  next month and is themed ‘conservation is life’.

Participants fro allover the world will convene in Musanze district, Northern province to celebrate the baby gorilla naming ceremony that aims at conserving this precious species.
