The Head of State Paul Kagame who is in a state visit in Zambia has stressed the importance of strengthening economic ties between both nations. He also called upon Rwandans who still live in Zambia under the refugee status to return home and ‘not abuse the hospitality given.’

President Paul Kagame was received by his counterpart Edgar Lungu at the Zambian State House in Lusaka

The Presidential Twitter Account quotes the President as saying:  “We are looking forward to many ways in which Rwanda and Zambia can work together. Our discussions will no doubt cement the existing good relations between our countries.”

President Kagame said Rwanda is grateful for the opening of the route of Rwandair which now flies to Zambia and with our continued collaboration.

We want to increase and encourage more interactions between our two people in order to build stronger economic ties, he said.

HE Paul Kagame said that even though trade is still significantly small and can be increased, he said he believes both nations can increase mutual export and import.

He called upon Africans to speak as one voice to ensure it remains relevant at a global level.

The Head of State thanked the Zambian President Edgar Lungu for his nation’ support in the African Union Reform and other leaders on implementation as twitted by Presidential Twitter handle.

President Kagame delivered a message to Rwandans living in Zambia under the refugee status.

The message is about inviting them to come back in Rwanda and enjoy peace and prosperity.

 “Our message to our people is that we want all of them to come back. To those abroad do not abuse the hospitality given. After 94 we had over 3 million people who had left the country but most of them have come back. We have been a country that has produced a big number of refugees because of our tragic history and politics. Many Rwandans live in Zambia & many have come back home and I want to thank you for the hospitality you have shown them.” He is quoted as having said.

He ended his speech by thanking  Zambian President Edgar Lungu for his warm reception, adding that this is one of the values that characterize Zambians.

He presented also the friendly greetings from the people of Rwanda to Zambians.
