He is commonly known as a tennis player, but President Kagame adds that he would have been a play maker footballer if he exercised football. He said that during an exclusive interview he gave to CAF based TV before the final match of the recently ended CHAN 2016 between DRC and Mali started.

Some examples that President Kagame is a big fan of football is that he sponsors the CECAFA and his nation hosted different championships such as U17, U20 and  CHAN.

He attended four matches during the CHAN. Few minutes before the final match between DRC and Mali took place, President Kagame gave an interview to CAF TV where he expressed his insights on the football and his passion for the game.

During the interview, the Head of State said that Rwandans are proud of having hosted an international football event such as CHAN.

President Kagame thanked the level at which Amavubi players have reached and advovcated for further progress in the coming occasions.

With smiles, President Kagame revealed to the reporters that he would prefer to play as play maker footballer.
