Siaya Senator James Orengo has told President Uhuru Kenyatta that NASA will not forcefully evict him from the presidency but rather “circumstances will force him out very soon.”
Speaking during the disbursement of Gem CDF bursaries in Wagai on Monday, February 19, Mr. Orengo said NASA leader Raila Odinga would take up the reins of government after Mr. Kenyatta’s “predestined” resignation.
The Senator cited ex-South Africa’s president Jacob Zuma’s February 14 resignation as a precedent for Mr. Kenyatta.
“The current situation in Kenya will force Uhuru to relinquish power prematurely,” he said.
Mr. Orengo played down speculations that NASA will, through protests, push out Mr Kenyatta.
“Uhuru will surrender the presidency without bloodshed being involved. Raila will, thereafter, take up the reins of government,” he said.
“Jubilee leaders will be disappointed by that development, but unfortunately for them, that will be the case,” he added.
Mr. Orengo’s sentiments were echoed by Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga and Gem legislator Elisha Odhiambo.
The remarks by the Siaya Senator echoed those made by NASA co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka on Saturday, February 17 during the burial of Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana’s brother in-law Prof. Lenno Mbaga in Kikambala, Kilifi County.
Kalonzo said the current political pattern in Africa, where long-serving leaders have had to exit, is a clear indication that NASA’s “quest for electoral justice” is on course.
Kalonzo cited the fall of Zimbabwe’s Robert Mugabe and the recent resignation of Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn as indicators of a change-hungry continent.
“Mugabe left office after clinging on to power for far too long. No life was lost during his exit because the people of Zimbabwe felt it was time for change,” Kalonzo said.
“Zuma tried to resist but he was forced to. In this country, the people shall also decide and push some people out of office.”
Kalonzo said the developments in the African nations “should serve as an eye-opener for Kenyan politicians who think they will rule the country forever.”
