The marathon that took place last Sunday “Kigali HeForShe Half Marathon”, Felicien Muhitira won it as male winner while Salomée Nyirarukundo became number one in the female section.

The athletes were required to cross main roads of Kigali city and were attended by many people from different corners of Kigali.

They started the race at Amahoro National Stadium, passing through Gishushu square heading to Kakiru.

The race continued from Kakiru towards Poids Lourds area- Rwandex – Sonatubes –Prince House and Amahoro Stadium where it ended.
There were another group of runners who participated into what was called ‘Run For Fun’.

This was mainly attended elderly people who exercised for fun and for better health.

Among males Muhitira was the first one after spending one hour in the race. Eric Sebahire Alexis, Nizeyimana and Robert Kajuga came next him, respectively.

Among females, Salomée Nyirarukundo won the first place after spending one hour and ten minutes.
Clementine Mukandanga and Marthe Yankurije came next her, respectively.

The race was organized by the Ministry of Sports and Culture in collaboration with the Ministry of Gender and Family promotion.

The aim was to increase the awareness of people about the importance of higher involvement of girls and women in all sectors of national social and economic development, what is currently known as ‘HeForShe’ initiative.
