The Mayor of Muhanga District Mutakwasuku Yvonne told a World Bank delegation that 15,9 per cent of all locals have access to electric power.She said that as she accompanied the WB delegation members who are making an official visit to six districts selected to be the satellite cities of Kigali capital city.

Mayor of Muhanga  Mutakwasuku Yvonne revealed to those visitors that apart from the electric installations, the district management planned for other infrastructures to be set up including water sanitation, roads, and hospitals, among others.

For her, if the electric  power installation will boost the economic growth of the district  as people will start developing new informal sector related activities.

At the other side, Mayor Mutakwasuku expresses her wishes that the percentage of the electric supply should increase

The head of the delegation, Mesky Brhane  underlined the fact that the first step is to first contact the district officials from these six selected delegations as to learn about the selected priorities before even calculating the needed financial amount for the investment.

We can not allocate the financial rates to invest on projects that are not yet selected by the concerned district officials, she said.

The Muhanga district officials affirm that in the coming years, over 20 000 locals will be equipped with electric power supplies, a situation that strengthen the economic spread in the district.

In Muhanga district, there is an undergoing construction of the a electric power plant at the Nyabugogo river  that is expected to provide 28 megawatts in the coming October.

The World Bank delegation is expected to visit six districts including Nyagatare,  Rusizi, Rubavu, Musanze, Huye, and Muhanga.
