There is a lamentable habit among some households in Rwanda where parents sell the milk instead of feeding the children with it and this disadvantages Rwandan children and expose them to malnutrition.

Minister Mukeshimana said that milk drinking habit is still underestimated by some Rwandans especially in rural areas.

She revealed that Rwanda has an annual milk harvest of around 710 000 tons of milk, meaning that one Rwandan is reportedly drinking 59 liters of milk per year.

However the research has shown that a relatively big number of Rwandan households are not consuming such quantity of milk at a daily basis, thus a call for more habit in this regard.

Some attributes this trend to poverty while others point on the ignorance or lack of information on the usefulness of milk drinking.

One of the officials who attended the yesterday’s campain called Florence said that this campaign aims at helping parents to understand the usefulness of milk drinking and therefore incite them to feed their offspring with such useful drink.
