The President was on Thursday speaking at the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) football grounds at Lugogo shortly after touring various infrastructure development projects under KCCA as it marked its three years of existence.

In November last year, in a special council meeting chaired by Kampala Minister, Frank Tumwebaze, 29 councillors voted in favour of removing Mr Lukwago. Three councillors opposed the motion.

This came after 17 councilors led by Bruhan Byarunga petitioned Frank Tumwebaze, the minister for Kampala seeking the removal of Lukwago saying he was unfit for the office of the lord mayor.

His controversial impeachment followed a report of the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) tribunal investigating abuse of office by Lukwago that found him guilty of misconduct, abuse of office and incompetence.

On opposing development in the city, particularly by ‘former’ Mayor Lukwago and Kiiza Besigye, the President said the Government had to use the law to step in and rescue the city from what he described anti development agents.

The President who was accompanied by the KCCA Executive Director Jennifer Musisi, the Government Chief whip Hon. Justine Lumumba, the Minister for Ethics and Integrity Simon Lokodo and local leader spent over five hours touring various city roads that have been renovated and upgraded to bitumen standards under the Kampala Institutional Infrastructure Development Programme including; Mbogo Rd, Soweto Rd in Kabalagala, Kafumbe Mukasa Rd, Kabaka Njjagala Rd, Kimerard, Kalerwe- Ttula Rd, Kawempe- Mpererwe Rd, Bukoto – Kisaasi Rd, Kimera Rd, Sir Apollo Kagwa Rd, Hoima Road, Kansanga- Lukuli Rd etc.
