This decision to host the conference in Kigali has been taken due to the advancement Rwanda has made in ensuring food security and nutritious foods  to all Rwandans, organizers told media yesterday.

According to the organizers, Rwandan ministry of agriculture has been lauded for having helped Rwandans grow more beans known to be rich in iron, a chemically important component for bones’ strength.

The Conference is scheduled to take place from 31, March to 02, April, 2014 in Kigali.

The Executive Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Tony Nsanganira said Rwanda is among few nations to have produced and provided minerals-rich beans to the citizens.

We have eight different kinds of beans that have provided Rwandans with enough proteins. Over 700 000 Rwandans received such beans and have improved their eating styles, Nsanganira informed journalists.

Dr Howarth Bouis, the CEO of the HarvestPlus, an international organization specialized in selecting and spreading healthy beans affirmed that Rwandans do consume beans that are  rich in proteins.

He appreciated the fact that Rwanda will host the Conference, said Dr  Howarth Bouis, adding that the participants will gain insight from the Rwandan experience  in nutritious foods  growing and consumption .

The HarvestPlus started its activities in Rwanda recently but has achieved a lot in providing Rwandans with healthy beans.

The International conference on nutrition will be attended by different experts from all over the world to exchange on how nutrition can be improved in the world through the provision of healthy beans and other similar crops.
