Villagers who live and cultivate in the neighboring areas of the local lakes claim that they lack modern irrigating machines to modernize the agriculture.

They told Umuseke that using traditional irrigating mechanisms is tiresome and therefore urge governmental institution in charge of agriculture modernization to assist them in that regard.

The fact that the area harbors spacious lakes is an added value for them to apply modern agriculture methods.

Local political authorities told farmers that the government has provided them with the Nkunganire assistance that will entitled to provide them with modern irrigating machines.

The farmer should pay half of the total price of the machine while the government will pay the rest.

Jarama sector officials urge locals to join cooperatives so that the government assistance may reach them easily and on time.

One of locals named Bigurumpa Bonaventure said that the use of traditional irrigation methods and tools is very tiresome and less productive.

Some of his colleagues reveal that few of them are able to totally afford the whole price of the irrigating machine.

Ndayambaje Emmanuel, the executive secretary of  Jarama sector, said that if some of the locals were able to afford the half of the required price of a single machine, the government will pay the rest of it  through the ‘Nkunganire program’

Modern irrigating methods are part and parcel of the agriculture policy of Rwandan government as to boost the agricultural production and food security among Rwandans.
