The Rwandans in Brazzaville, Congo, participated into the 1994 genocide commemoration period in event that took place at the Rwanda’s Embassy in Brazzaville. The opening remarks of the commemoration were, on April, 07, 2018, delivered by Rwandan Ambassador Dr Jean Baptiste Habyarimana.
Congolese senior officials took part into the event that were attended by not less than 200 people including members of cabinet, MPs and members of the diplomatic corps stationed in Congo-Brazzaville.
Amb. Dr Jean Baptiste Habyarimana reminded his audience that mourning Tutsis killed in the genocide is a way to remember their humanity, their dignity and honor they deserve.
He added that remembering the victims of the 1994 genocide provides the survivors and other people with a vive memory that helps them to avoid any genocide ideology.
Throughout his speech, Amb Habyarimana underlined the recent decision taken by the UN calling upon the International community on the necessity of remembering the 1994 genocide against the Tutsis.
UN stipulates that world could commemorate the 1994 genocide against the Tutsis on April, 07, every year.
Amb Habyarimana said that that is a positive endeavor from the United Nations Organization that highlights the necessity of remembrance of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsis.
He told his audience that Rwandans have embarked on a positive move for a sustainable development despite of the 1994 genocide that took off lives of one million Tutsis.
During the event, the representative of the United Nations in Congo Brazza, Anthony K. Oboamah read the special message from the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres.
His message condemns the genocidal ideology that, if not fought against, can bear destructive outcomes, including a genocide itself.
The Congolese Minister of education Bruno Jean Richard Itoua who represented the Congolese government said that the Congolese people are nearby Rwandans in their pain as they commemorate the 1994 genocide against the Tutsis.
Itoua told his audience that Congo- Brazzaville is committed to fight against all genocide related ideologies.
He thanked Rwandans on their social and economic achievements since the end of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsis.
As he ended up his speech, Minister Itoua said that currently bilateral ties between Rwanda and Congo-Brazzaville are cordial.
