The Governor of the National Bank of Burundi Jean Ciza affirms that the national bank did not burn but the bank officials were burning old bank notes,he said.
He said this after rumors and photos were spread in different areas of the region showing a fire burning in the newly places of the bank.
Ciza Jean said that these rumors came from a smoke coming from the burning of the old bank notes near by the bank. After the rumor spread up, local dwellers came to gather around the bank to check on the situation.
A local news paper called Iwacu said that after the rumor spread, the Minister of local security, MPs, the Chief Commander of Burundi army among others came to find out the reality about the rumor .
The rumor created a situation of fear as Bujumbura dwellers still remember the fire that burnt up the wider market in the country on January, 23, 2013.
Willy Nyamitwe who is the advisor of the Burundian President at his Facebook wall that the rumor was nothing but a rumor.
